Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio of the Maricopa County Police Department wants to strip Special-deputy colonel Shaquille O’Neal of his special deputy badges because the Phoenix Suns center used profanity and a racial slur in his freestyle rap performance.
Sheriff Arpaio said, “I just want my badges back. I don’t want anybody to say that he has my badges and I condone this type of activity.” According to the news source, Sheriff Arpaio is best known for clothing inmates in pink underwear. Rapping the a$$ word is unethical yet, covering the a$$ in pink underwear reforms prisoners?
On the following day (June 25th), Sheriff Mike Brown of Bedford County in Virginia stripped O’Neal of his unofficial association with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force department. Apparently, the sports star and the hero of children and adults who was sworn-in as a Honorary Deputy U.S. Marshal for his commitment to capture online sexual predators, can no longer take a bite out of crime.
Shaq also serves as a volunteer at the Tempe Police Department.
Lieutenant Mike Horn stated, “This is an issue between Sheriff Joe and Shaq. Nothing has changed with us.”
O’Neal told ESPN.com, “I was freestyling, that’s all. It was all done in fun. Nothing serious whatsoever.”
