Love Parade 2010 Stampede in Duisburg, Germany
Mass Panic broke out after police tried to restrict access to a bridge underpass tunnel. Many revelers were pinned shoulder to shoulder in the tunnel. Witnesses claim bodies were stacked on top of each other as people climbed the walls to escape the stampede.
Apparently, Germans are dumbfounded by the chaos at the Love Parade since Germans have little tolerance for poor organization. According to this news source, city officials and Love Parade organizers overlooked the warnings that Duisburg was unable to host one million people and manage the massive event.

According to Love Parade Organizers, the annual techno music festival has been permanently cancelled after 283 people were treated for injuries and 21 people were killed when revelers panicked and funneled through the tunnel during Germany’s 21st annual Love Parade.

According to Spiegel Online, 250,000 people is the maximum safe capacity of the festival site. Unfortunately, the exact number of revelers at the stampede is part of the ongoing debate. Spiegel reported that Lopavent GmbH, the organizers of the Love Parade, did not have to comply with the standard 33-foot wide emergency exits.

The Loveparade 2010 will be the last which was held.
The party continued on after the stampede as was said by news “to continue the party to prevent another stamped!”.
So the party continued until 23:00 (11:00 p.m.).
The stampede happened around 17:00 (5:00 p.m.)
As for the the numbers in your post are a little misleading.
I guess you (or someone else) made a little mistake in the translation.
24th of July 2010
19 deaths (16 at location, 3 in hospital) [about 283 causalities were treated in hospital of whom the most could get home that day]
It rose to 21 as two females died in hospital later. (25/28 July 2010).
The causalities of that day are kind of estimated at about 511 of whom 283 joined hospital. Not counted are the psychological disorders which I guess will add like a 1000 or more.
And last the party organizer seems to be the one to blame.
The police protection was outside of the area – in the city.
The original party organizer (till 2001) said about the new organizer that he overrates commercial output.
And right after the stampede he said that Schaller (new guy) is responsible for the death of people!
Schaller did not organize the party well… so much is said these days and comes to top, which will let me have a say later on.
Still unclear to me is also the count of people visiting the party.
Schaller (organizer): 185.000 people
estimates on that day: 1 Million to 1.400.000 people
The location was designed hush-hush-style for about 250.000 people and for that amount of people that space was not enough.
The controls (glass or?drugs?) and the fencing of the area were done the first time in Loveparades history.
A lot of people including me could not grab why they did not open more then one entrance.
That entrance also was IN and OUT at the same time, through a tunnel and with no escapes. Thats the point for me.
Rightly after the news said like the victims were responsible – saying they fell after climbing the walls…
…not the case! (None of those dead died of falling from great height)

“THE organiser of the Love Parade says the yearly techno music festival will never be held again after 19 people were killed and 342 were injured in a panicked crush in an entrance tunnel.” Was this news translated incorrectly?
The number of causalities was changed to 283 to agree with your news record.

21 death,
511 injured (causalties)
(of them 283 were treated in hospitals – but most of them left hospital that day/night).

Should have said like 21 death , 511(+) injured, maybe 1000+ panic disorders / psychological problems / traumatized.
How many visited the Loveparade?
That is for the moment unclear to the most news sources and to me.
At the Location estimated for max people (250.000)
- are based on an graphical estimation done by computers work
130.000
people in the area of fenced with the ramp of which led to the tunnels.
(A critic of myself in that method is, that they did not estimate the people waiting outside, which lead to the pressing which caused the stampede in the end.)
Estimated people on that day were :
1.4 Mio , 1 Mio , 500000? ; they get smaller …
In an attempt to try to explain that.
The Mister Schaller (that guy who owns/promotes McFit a Bodybuilding Club franchise) said like it were 1.4 million … later on he changed to 185000 on the area (as of today) – in an attempt to hide away his guilt?
